Community site: login faq

I feel like a fool, but I don't understand how this documentation is supposed to work.

  1. I have a WordPress application set up.
  2. It's attached to the website "dryandmighty.ca" with "www.dryandmighty.ca" as an additional domain. The website is set as secure with a Let's Encrypt certificate.
  3. http://dryandmighty.ca returns no domain, just a "Coming Soon"
  4. I follow this documentation.
  5. But when I try to attach the static redirect app to the website, I can't -- it's "already served by another app".
  6. If I remove the dryandmighty WordPress app and attach the static redirect app, the only thing at the website is now the static app. Nothing connects to the WordPress app.

Is there an even more dumbed-down process for how to do this?

Okay, so you should be creating a HTTP site record with both domains and the new redirect app attached for those instructions. The warning message only pops up when you try to create a site record that already is in use.

Trying to do that seems to have blown everything up with a "For security reasons, you can only point your domain's nameservers to WebFaction after you have added it to our system. Please change your nameservers before adding this domain. See https://docs.webfaction.com/user-guide/domains.html#adding-a-domain-to-the-control-panel for more info. (dryandmighty.ca)" warning.

This is clearly over my head -- ticket submitted.

That shouldn't be necessary, just make sure you have one using HTTP and one using HTTPS. The HTTPS site record will have your app assigned to it, and the HTTP one will have the redirect app. Also, if you want to redirect HTTP to HTTPS maybe this is the kind of redirect you want, https://docs.webfaction.com/software/static.html?highlight=http%2520to%2520https#redirecting-from-http-to-https
